Aquarium fishkeeping is a long-established pastime with rising popularity. It has led to consistent growth. It began with fish bred as food in ponds and swimming pools.

Later, these pools and ponds had beautiful colors and domesticated fish that were cherished as pets. The ancient Egyptians were the first people to preserve fish for food and entertainment. Asians have a long history of fish stocking in rice paddies, which includes food, mostly cyprinid (carp, goldfish, barbs, etc.) and catfish. Before 2000, Japan and China started raising goldfish and carp.




European fishkeeping history

In the middle of the 17th century, the first introduction of goldfish into Europe . Among stylish Victorians (from June 20, Queen Victoria's reign). For kids, watching the goldfish for a short period of time was thought to be more instructive than spending "many days with books." (Charles Nash Page, in Aquaria, his 1898 book). They also thought that keeping goldfish was beneficial for "health restoration" and "Mentally soothing". Fish House, the first public aquarium, debuted in the London Zoo in May 1853. The Aquarium: An Unveiling of the Wonders of the Deep Sea, by Philip Henry Gosse, is the first aquarium book ever published.


History of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka preserved records from the reign of King "Dutugemunu "(161 BC to 137 BC). In pastime,  raise goldfish in the "Ranmasu Uyana". Also there was a Gold Fish Park, which is situated beneath the dam of the"Anuradhapura's Tisawewatank" may be the first aquarium in Sri Lanka. "Vessagiriya" also use as Gold fish park by king "Mihindu" in Sri Lankan history.
